Walk the Line

In the final project of my second year, I worked together with a team of four people on the "walk the line" project, coached by Sam Nemeth. The main theme of this project was to incorporate location aware technology into an educational game.

The video shows the gameplay of the concept we developed which revolves around getting a GPS-enabled ball from point A through B to point C etc. in as straight a line as possible. The main "educational" theme of the game was to make players aware of the artificial boundaries in our everyday environment and the limitations of where we can actually go in our world. To point out visited locations of particular interest, out concept entailed several minigames involving interaction with the environment and using augmented reality to link the virtual world contained in a portable PDA with the physical surroundings of the players.

This project has shown me, after a few bumpy second year projects, the value of having a good team to work with and trust on. Having good people working with and around you is not purely a means of spreading workload but also very much a way to increase creative ability, motivation, and having fun working in general.

Working on this project has also been key in stimulating my interest in the interaction between technology and the world, improving activities, experiences and objects by adding a level of intelligence and interactivity.
